Admitted Student Next Steps
Next Steps: Degree-Seeking Graduate Students
Step 1: Accept Admissions Office/Declare Intent to Enroll in your Application Portal
To accept your admissions offer, follow the steps below:
- Log into your application portal (this is the same application portal used to apply to UCCS) and navigate to the "Application Status" page.
- Once on your "Application Status" page, click on "Accept Offer of Admission" on the Home page.
- Select "I ACCEPT my offer of admission"
- Press "Submit"
After completing this step, you have officially accepted your admission offer to UCCS. Now, proceed to Step 2 to claim your account.
Step 2: Claiming Your Student Account (UCCS Student Email and Password)
Current UCCS students, please skip to Step 3.
When your student account has been created by OIT, you will receive an email from OIT with your UCCS login credentials. Special notes:
- *Please do not try to claim your account until you have received this email from OIT.*
The correspondence from OIT will be sent to whichever email was used for your application to UCCS.
After receiving your credentials:
- Go to the My UCCS Account website, click on “Claim Your Account”. Use your UCCS credentials that were emailed to you to complete the process.
- If you previously attended UCCS, use your prior account login and password to claim your account.
- Need help with claiming your account? Call the UCCS IT HelpDesk at (719) 255-4357 or visit the OIT Help page.
- After you claim your account, you should immediately have access to your myUCCS student portal. You can go to https://uccs.edu/portal and login using your UCCS credentials.
- IMPORTANT: After you are admitted, it will take 24-48 hours for your account to become active so you can enroll in coursework if enrollment is available.
- Helpful Hint: We recommend you become familiar with your student portal. Your portal can be used to update your contact information, view your financial aid awards, search and register for classes, and more!
Step 3: Connect with Your Advisor
Check your admissions letter to determine who your program contact/advisor is for your program. You will need to check-in with your program contact/advisor to determine which classes to enroll in.
For graduate students, academic advising is done within the departments. A full list of program contacts can be found on the Program Contacts page. If you are unsure who to contact, please reach out to gradinfo@uccs.edu or call 719-255-3417.
Step 4: Register for Classes
After checking with your program contact to determine which classes to register for, you can enroll in courses during your assigned enrollment period. Detailed instructions and videos with instructions on registering for classes can be found on the Registrar's website.
- Helpful Hint: The UCCS Academic Calendar shows important class registration deadlines, census dates, and other important deadlines to be mindful of while enrolling for classes. Select the term to see important dates associated with that term.
- Student accounts are deactivated if the student does not enroll in classes their first semester and/or if they do not enroll in classes for 3 consecutive semesters. After that time, students must either reapply to the program or send a request to the academic department to be reactivated. Determining if a reactivation request is approved or denied is entirely up to the academic department's discretion. If this request is denied, the student will need to reapply to the program.
Step 5: Welcome Tasks and/or Orientation Registration
Register for the New Graduate Student Welcome and/or your Department Orientation.
- If you are admitted into a degree seeking graduate program, check with your graduate program department to see if they offer a program-specific orientation. Sometimes this information will be included in your admission letter. If not, please reach out to your program to determine if there are any required orientations for your program.
- All new graduate students are welcome to attend the New Graduate Student Welcome Reception at the beginning of the Fall semester. You can register for the New Graduate Student Welcome Reception on the Orientation page.
- International Students should also sign-up for the MANDATORY International Student Orientation, which is required for all international students on F-1 or J-1 visas. Sign-up on the International Students Orientation page.
