Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education/WRGP

Programs marked with a W are eligible for the Western State Resident Tuition Classification Program (WRGP), which offers residents from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the U.S. Pacific Territories and Freely Associated States the opportunity to pay a reduced tuition rate which is currently equal to in-state tuition. Please read before applying to this ADN-MSN pathway:

An alternate pathway for Associate degree practicing nurses to enter the master's program in lieu of completing a BSN.
Only those with 5000 practice hours with an Associate degree can apply to this master's program route.
The applications will be reviewed by our graduate option coordinators.
Applicants will apply, know what the requirements are, have their hours documented in a letter by employer, and letters of recommendation.
Once admitted they take an undergraduate pathway course to determine what the gaps are to proceed without a BSN degree. It will be a 6 credit course that has been approved and is on the schedule to be offered this Fall 2025 semester. The student needs to complete the course with a minimum of 84 which is a B. Once completed they can be admitted to the masters program and will determine which track they want to be on. If they don’t get the B they can retake the course or can go on to complete the BSN requirements and use the course as 2 elective requirements.

2 letters of recommendation (For Advanced Standing Program applicants, please ensure that 1 letter of recommendation is from a current professor in your current social work program and the other is academic/professional)
Goal Statement: The goal statement should address each of the following: (500 - 1,000 words for each question. Make sure to include your name and the program you are applying to in your goal statement)
1) Describe a social problem that relates to social justice.
- a. Identity and articulate potential solutions to the problem.
- b. Discuss the potential challenges that could surface in implementing those solutions.
- c. Incorporate consideration of social work ethical values and principles and speak to how they have guided your approach to addressing this problem.
2) Describe a challenge that you have faced and how you addressed it. Provide a clear picture of the challenge including:
- a. The nature and origin of the challenge.
- b. Your role in the challenge.
- c. The impact of the challenge on you and others.
- d. Steps taken to address and resolve the challenge.
- e. The professional impact of the challenge. How did overcoming this challenge influence the way you handle professional challenges?
3) Describe your goals in the social work profession addressing the following:
- a. Preparation: What academic, professional and life experiences that have prepared you for the MSW journey?
- b. Resources and Support: Specify the resources and supports that will help you successfully complete the MSW program. Please speak to your readiness to manage both the academic rigor of the program and the emotional challenges that can come with working with the intense life experiences of the people and communities served by social workers.
- c. Positionality: At the core of the social work profession is a commitment to the empowerment of marginalized individuals and groups. Discuss your preparedness for working with socially and economically disadvantaged populations, explicitly addressing your understanding of and commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

UCCS is an approved Colorado Special Services Provider license with a School Social Worker endorsement!

At UCCS social work, you can apply for a special services provider license with a school social worker endorsement to provide social work services in the Colorado public school district or charter school.

You can complete the following coursework at UCCS to apply for this license:

(SWRK 6057) School Aged Children and Families, OR
(SWRK 6058) School Social Work Interventions.
